Staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital mistakenly used the first class postal service instead of courier mail to send the heart of a deceased woman for analysis in January after she died of a rare heart disease.  The hospital is pro-fusely apologetic to the family of the 38-year old woman but the fact is, her heart is still missing. - BBC

Birkdale High School, in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, paid $6,500.to rent the plane used by Manchester United to carry a selected group of 86 students. The lessons that would be taught during the hour-long flight and at 30,000 feet high would include religious studies and geography.  Students thought that God could be found above the clouds !

A 26 year old dental receptionist developed a case of viral pneumonia during her pregnancy. Her condition worsened causing fluid to build up around her heart and lungs and sending her kidney into failure. Doctors were uncertain whether mother or child would survive. The lady went into coma but while in coma surprisingly she delivered a healthy baby boy.  She woke up from coma after one month!. - CBS

According to the government of Hong Kong, English teachers in the country need to go back to school since only fewer than half of 1000 English-language teachers and would be teachers passed this year's proficiency test in the written-skills category. Apparently only half passed the speaking section.

A three-year-old had her tongue stitched to her gum during an operation to remove her milk teeth. The Prince Charles Hospital in Methyr Tydril, South Wales has apologized to the child's mother but until the investigation is complete, it cannot be certain if it was indeed a human or a procedural one.

A 9-year-old tribal girl has married a stray dog as part of a ritual to ward off an "evil spell" on her. The marriage would not affect the girl's life and that she would be free to marry a human again latter. Police are investigating.

The Kasulu Internet Project in Mtabila refugee camp uses cow manure to provide electricity for its handful computers at its center. Now thousands of refugees in Tanzania, about 50,000, are being given the chance to learn about computers and Internet.  Thanks to a project fuelled by a rather unusual power source. "It has really changed out lives because it is much easier and cheaper than using the postal service." Cow manure when fermented produces methane gas, which then used to run the generator to produce electricity. - BBC

Mohammad Ismail, 60, applied to the state-run Bangladesh telephone company to install the line in May 1979. The company ultimately installed a phone 27 years latter! The delay was largely due the fact that he refused to pay any bribes. - BBC

Huynh Van Gat used cow fat to paint a one kilogram iron lump and sold it as valuable bronze.  Black bronze is used in making jewelry and ornament objects like statues. Latter on a tip off, Gat and his accomplices were arrested for having fake dong [Vietnamese currency]. Police said the money he received for the sale of fake bronze for $58,214 with fake dong!. - Reuters.

A congregation in the United States was left stunned when lighting struck a church moments a visiting preacher asked GOD for a sign. The lighting struck the steeple, then hit the preacher himself when it traveled through electrical wiring to his microphone.  He was not hurt. - BBC

South Korean authorities have been cracking down on men who get tattooed in order to avoid military service. In Korea, traditionally tattoos indicate that the wearer is a gangster or member of the underworld. And according to national conscription laws these men are unfit for military because they are an "abomination among fellow soldiers." - BBC

John Apollo 43 - years old, undisputed tallest man in Uganda, measuring 2.68m [8 ft 9 inches] died. He narrowly missed being the world's tallest man. A problem cropped up during his burial. The longest coffin ever seen in the normal sized grave. They had to elongate the grave by 3 more feet before he could be finally laid to rest. - BBC

Terry Willis, was 19 when he met with an accident, where one of his friend died on the spot, another emerged without a scratch.  But Wallis ended up paralyzed and in coma. 19 years latter, he slowly responded to external stimulus and now his speech returned. - BBC

The Fair and Lovely advertisement has recently caused uproar within the Indian society as it has blatantly equated fairness with beauty. The manufacturers of Fair and Lovely have been accused of demeaning women by taking advantage of the already existing Indian cultural bias for light skinned women. - IT

Two teens called on a marijuana dealer, to buy drugs. But they dialed the wrong number, direct to Mower County [Minn.] Sheriff's cell phone. They hung up when Sheriff Terese said she was the sheriff. A few minutes latter they called again, the sheriff allowed the deputy answer and arranged a meeting with them after pretending to be a marijuana dealer. Of course, they got arrested. The girls turned out to be ages of 15 and 17. - AP

Appollo Diamonds Inc in Massachusetts and Florida based Gemesis Corp have each produced a new type of lab-made diamonds, and are extremely difficult to distinguish from natural diamonds. - ABCnews.

A 39-year-old Brit who tried to swim almost 200 miles from Cyprus to Israel ended up in hospital with hypothermia. The man apparently was trying to swim to Jerusalem but was rescued by yachtsman when he called for help. - Reuters

A German woman, who thought she was a modern-day Dr. Dolittle was found living with 152 sickly animals, including 51 rabbits and 45 cats in a small high-rise apartment block. Animal activists also found caged birds including parrots, pigeons and crows in the apartment as well as a sewer rat, a hedgehog and piles of food and animal faces. - Reuters

A common Serbian wedding ceremony of firing guns into the air turned disaster when the wedding party accidentally gunned down a two - seater sports plane going for a joy - ride. The plane went down in flames when its left wing was shot. The plane however was caught in overhead power cables when it attempted to crash land. - Reuters.

While Escargots are delicacies in France, eating common snails in South East Asia and the Pacific basin can be fatal. Recently a man contracted eosinophilic meningitis after he dared to eat the mollusk. According to the Medical Journal of Australia, snails are hosts of the larval stage of a lung worm parasite. - Reuters.

“Nice Witch" wins Norwegian government grant. Lena Skarning, 33, who has been a "good witch" for the last 13 years, just received a government grant from the Norwegian government worth USD 7,500 to set up a Witch shop. Her business, Forest Witch Magic Consulting, will tell fortunes, teach magic tricks at corporate seminars and offer portions and creams to cure for problems ranging from sleeplessness to bad habits. The only condition she has to abide by is to not try any spells that might hurt anyone! - BBC

A 45-year old man was arrested in Tokyo for stealing 440 women's shoes - all of them being the left pair! The man was said to have stolen these pairs of shoes ranging from leather pumps to sandals from a private hospital in Usu city, 500 miles south of Tokyo. It was not clear why he preferred the left foot. - AP

A man, spending six days atop a construction crane in central London has finally climbed down after causing much traffic chaos. Apparently the distressed father had dressed as his daughter's favorite comic book character to lobby for "fathers' rights" against a legal system, which keeps most fathers, like him, from seeing their children. - Reuters

A Muslim cleric in the Black Sea town of Akcakoca mistakenly forced an extra day of fasting on people in a Turkish town during the month of Ramadan, by reading the call to prayer five minutes before schedule. The Imam, apparently miscalculated the time of sundown and read the prayer early, causing people to break fast five minutes too soon – Reuters

Denival Santos, a jobless Brazilian who agreed to impersonate a convicted robber, Rene Coelho Honorato, and serve his prison sentence so that he could pay off his debt of $275 for crashing Honorato's motorcycle, wound up getting his own jail time for his hoax. - Reuters

A couple, whose combined age adds up to 183, will plan to get married this Sunday. Jim Gorringe, 99 and Dinah Leach, 84 - both from Christchurch - will also enter into the Guinness Book of Records for being the oldest couple to ever wed. Amongst the invited guest will be include the couples children from their respective previous marriages, great-grand children and great-great grandchildren. The couple says this alliance will not produce any children. - AP

A five-year-old Dutch girl handed out "sweets" to classmates that turned out to be ecstasy, cocaine and heroin pills. Apparently large quantities of soft drugs and hard drugs were found in the car of the girl's 21-year old brother. - Reuters

What happens when a fly lands in your soup? You politely tell the waiter and send it back! But what happens when you find a condom in your soup? You run into the bathroom, start throwing up and sue the restaurant for negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress and say you have suffered depression and anxiety from the shocking discovery. Yes!!! This is exactly what happened to a customer at an upmarket restaurant in California. - Reuters

Prahlad Jani, 70-years-old, claims not to have eaten or drunk anything for several decades and yet maintained perfect health. He was put on constant observation for 10 days in Sterling Hospital, under watchful eyes of 400 doctors. They are unable to explain this abnormal phenomenon. - BBC

Jodie Coupland, 9, delivered her baby brother after her mother went into unexpected labor. With no time to get to hospital, Jodie dialed 999 for instructions on what to do. She managed to deliver the head and her grandma who just arrived delivered the rest of the baby. Jodie, says, "It made me feel weird because I have never done anything like that before. It was the best day of my life." - BBC

School trips may be banned because principals fear they could be sued for up to $500,000 if a pupil is injured. This is following a string of school trip deaths past few years. - The Dominion Post.

Catherine Donkers, 29, was arrested and sentenced to three months in Ohio, USA for: Nursing her baby daughter while driving. Talking on on the phone to her husband and taking notes on the steering wheel. Was also found guilty of driving without a license and failing to comply with officers. - BBC

Waynetta Nolan, 37, a Texas woman, was sentenced to 10 years in jail in Houston all because she ran over MacDonald's manager after not getting mayonnaise on her cheeseburger. The MacDonald's manager was knockdown at the drive-through restaurant, and dragged across the car park, suffered a broken pelvis. - BBC

A German Cannibal confessed to a shocked courtroom that he mutilated and devoured his victim at his behest. What was more appalling was that he claimed the experience was akin to performing a religious service. The Cannibal has also posted Internet ads saying: "If you are 18-25 you are my boy" or "Come to me I'll eat your delicious flesh."  And even got some 430 people respond to his emails. - Reuters

Brazilian Police have nabbed 11 people involved in the selling of human kidneys to South Africa. According to police officials, an Israeli man was responsible for arranging this kidney trade in Recife, the capital of Pernambuco state. They kidneys were going for $10,000 but were also being sold for as little as $6,000. - Reuters

A forgetful man from Cambodia left his nephew with an old lady selling petrol as guarantee when he realized he had no money to pay for three liters of gasoline he had filled. It has been two year since the incident and the old lady is still waiting. She has now decided to keep the youngster and look after him as her grandson. - Reuters

An Australian living in Adelaide had called the police to report that thieves were trying to break into his home and steal his cannabis plants but wound up getting arrested himself. The man was growing 16 cannabis plants in two rooms.

Janice Meissner, a mother of three got more than she bargained for when she went thru a Mc' Donald's drive-in to order her breakfast. Turned out she didn't get her breakfast of bagel and diet-coke, but instead drove off with the restaurant's bank deposits that were placed in a food bag. This is a security procedure by McDonalds to make it less conspicuous before money is taken to the bank. The honest mother promptly retuned the money to the restaurant.

A 31-year old German has been jailed for declaring his parents dead 40 times in order to get charity hand-outs which he then spends on drugs. - Reuters
